I think I found the funniest version of "The tortoise and the hare" tale type just now 😄 From Japan.

It is about a centipede and a slug running a race to a shrine. Obviously the centipede gets there first, but when the slug arrives, centipede is still taking his sandals off, so slug enters the shrine first.

😆

I got a message from my God: "I'm not sure I can keep doing this."

"Why, what's up?" I replied.

"I told you to spread the word. Now I have hundreds of worshippers."

"Isn't that good?"

"Yes, I love it. But the traffic..."

My God provides Their worshippers with WiFi.

"Wait," I type, "are you saying you do everything by hand?"

"By Divinity. From modulating the electromagnetic spectrum, to carrying and routing every packet."

Any hackers out there know how to automate that?

Furnished with leaky backpacks stuffed with wildflower seeds, dogs are being let loose on an urban nature reserve just outside Lewes, east Sussex. The idea is that they mimic an ecological role vacated by wolves, when the latter was driven to extinction in the UK in the 18th century. Wolves unwittingly collected seeds in their fur and deposited them all over the UK, creating new colonies of plants.

Would you like #Mastodon to provide easy way to make *some* of your lists public and share them? (so you will also be able to easily follow other user's public lists) (By "easy" I don't mean manual export and import of CSV files, but rather web or app GUI - links in posts, in bio, or so)

it is not obvious, which way of implementing lists is correct!

I can imagine both ways - "dynamic" follow of someone elses list, which would probably work only on local instance (method 1), and "static", which basically means copying list of followed accounts and also following them (method 2)

Another difference between lists on Twitter and Mastodon was, that on Twitter it was alternative to following account and maintainer was able to dynamically change the list (method 1), but on Mastodon it subset of followed accounts (method 2).

I suspect, that the inability to remove account from list once the list was shared is the reason, why there is no user friendly GUI for sharing lists on Mastodon. But at the same time: we, the instance moderators, need to offer new users something, some content, not "empty screen". Anything is better, than empty screen. This is not good UX for new users...

And manually maintained lists seem to be better option, than algorithm.

Když už tu máme celosvětové výpadky počítačů, je čas na moje oblíbené mentální cvičení.

Jaké máte schopnosti a znalosti, které by vám byly užitečné v případě kolapsu civilizace? A jaké zásadní vám naopak chybí? Co byste mohli nabídnout komunitě?

Já ještě umím psát rukou, heč! Ale jinak moc nevím, snad jen to háčkování a pletení. Jestli se apokalypsa obejde bez čepic, tak jsem v háji.

Sheep made from old telephones are part of an art installation by French artist Jean-Luc Cornec. These unique sculptures are made from old rotary dial telephones and cables and are on display at the Museum of Communication in #Frankfurt am Main.
The installation is intended to remind visitors of simpler times while raising awareness of the problem of electronic waste.

Can someone help me find a (fediverse?) post please.

It was of an old computer which was booted up in 2023(?) and was complaining that the date was ludicrously wrong.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

**EDIT**: This one 🙂
mastodon.social/@tubetime/1108…

SunOS 4.1.4 says it can't possibly be the year 2023: "WARNING: preposterous time in filesystem -- CHECK AND RESET THE DATE!"

sorry SunOS, there's nothing i can do to fix 2023.

The Bohemian hilly forests are like Finland, but with more amplitude modulation. And perhaps less mosquitoes. And much more beautiful small cities. Love it. Harder to pronounce place names though.
