Looks useful!
@For hand and machine knitters @Fiber Arts

I suspect that this may be of interest to a certain cross section of the denizens of the Fediverse: “Knit Hello” is a typeface for hand knitting. It’s both a typeface and way to make knitting patterns.

A baví mě to.

Australian software engineer Sarah Spencer hacked a 1980's knitting machine to create "Stargazing: a knitted tapestry" to show the universe in a unique way. 🇦🇺

Sarah explains, “By using a floppy drive emulator written in Python and a web interface, I can send an image to the Raspberry Pi over the network, preview it in a knitting grid, and tell it to send the knitting pattern to the knitting machine via the floppy drive port ...

A feature timer apps should have is being able to start a timer and THEN decide how long it should run for — maybe I want to be alerted five minutes from now, not five minutes from whenever I've managed to type in what I want

Like, you hit "new timer" and this appears:

NEW TIMER

0️⃣5️⃣:0️⃣0️⃣

🔳 From when I press "start"
⬜ From when I pressed "new timer" (3s ago)
⬜ From when I opened the app (7s ago)

Někdy začátkem léta jsem během procházky vzdálenějším koncem sídliště našla na zemi spadané zelené lískové oříšky. Taková škoda, počasí jim asi nepřálo, říkala jsem si. Ale taky: My tu máme lísku!

Something I learned about over the weekend, a wonderful pun on Wikipedia is at risk of extinction. If it happens though it'll be for the right reasons at least.

On the "List of Cetaceans" page they have what you'd expect, against each whale in the list is a picture or drawing. Where they have neither they have "[cetacean needed]" which is a glorious pun!

They're down to one remaining, if someone is able to document Deraniyagala's beaked whale in the wild it'd be great news for conservation, but a sad day for puns.

Well, I made the groups for @knitting and @sewing and they seem to be working. Right now, Knitting will only boost from followers, but I have put in a request to make it from anyone that mentions the group.

So, uh... Enjoy!

#sewing #knitting #fiberarts

Please boost so others that might not follow the hashtags can see.

Also, if you would like to mention the groups but not have it boosted on the group, you can use ! before the @

Thanks so much!

With the previous guppe groups dead I have created a new group, under a different service, with similar functions.
However this one is set to require that you follow the group account in order to be able to boost your content through the group.
The group handle is: @crafters

Okay, some really bad news but also a suggestion for a way forward.

The Guppe groups domain name was sold by their registrar before they could renew it. This means all Guppe groups are broken, and their web addresses point to a spam blog 😞

However, there is another group provider called FediGroups, you can find out more on their site:

➡️ about.fedigroups.social/home

FediGroups has features that Guppe never had, including private groups.

According to Namecheap, it's 12 days, and there are other ccTLDs whose registries have made similar questionable decisions. It seems like all gTLDs should be safe from this, since they have ICANN oversight and ICANN presumably also thinks this is stupid. It's weird that auto renewal didn't do anything. Did they not have it set up or something?

namecheap.com/support/knowledg…

EDIT:

This does not seem to be fully accurate, or at least, Tucows has a different list than Namecheap. They also say 10 days instead of 12, and have shorter time periods for most of the other ccTLDs. It's possible some of this is at the discretion of the registrar. The main point still stands that this is a thing that ccTLD registries seemingly do sometimes, so set your domains to auto renew. The only way to be fully sure would likely be to find detailed descriptions of the policies directly from each registry, or contact them directly to ask, but I do not have the time for that. If someone else wants to, feel free.

(Thanks for pointing out the discrepancies with the .fr ccTLD, @bortzmeyer )
